The Best Zombie Machete For You

Posted by mercutiom On April - 29 - 2010

One of the questions we get more than any other is, “What is the best machete for killing zombies?”  We’ve given it some thought recently, and pooled our own machetes to see where we stood.  Not unsurprisingly there were a variety of blades displayed, and each person had their own reasons for choosing their personal weapon.

Taking this in we quickly realized that there is no perfect machete for killing zombies.  There may however be a perfect weapon for you to use when killing zombies.  We hashed some ideas back and forth and eventually came up with the following list to help you when choosing the best machete for you to use. What are we missing?

Posted by mercutiom On January - 18 - 2010

We love zombies, and we have to admit we’re excited about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse.  But we also understand that we’re human and there are aspects about surviving an outbreak that we can miss.  In that vein, we’re asking for help from our readers.

Is there something that we haven’t covered that you think we should?  Is there some aspect of the zombpocalypse that you don’t think we’ve covered fully or missed completely?  Did we spell zompocalypse wrong?

Let us know what you think we’re missing, or what we could do better.  We haven’t nearly run out of ideas yet, and we plan on posting on a daily basis, but we want to make sure that what we’re writing makes sense to you.  So please, contact us or leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Communication After The Outbreak

Posted by mercutiom On January - 14 - 2010

Communication between groups and even individuals is going to be very difficult after the Zombie Outbreak.  Cell phones will not work, the Internet will go down, even the mail will fail to be delivered.  All of this will happen within weeks (if not days) after the outbreak begins.

Yes, there will still be satellites up there, and some communication will be able to be maintained through them, but they too will fail eventually.  From that point on communication will fall back on the individual.

So what is the best means of communicating to others after the zombies come?  Obviously our ability to speak will be one of the main ways with whatever group of unturned you find yourself with.  But you will need to plan for those times you come across other groups and individuals, and how you plan to converse with them.  Remember, you will want to keep them at a safe distance at your first encounter, both to ensure your safety, and theirs. Travelling With Weapons

Posted by mercutiom On January - 14 - 2010

We talked yesterday about travelling during a zombie outbreak, and the hassles that carrying weapons while flying.  Well today we wanted to take a moment and follow up on that.  You see, when you’re checking luggage carrying weapons can be rather simple, and it also can be additional insurance that your luggage will meet you at your destination.

The TSA has been searching checked luggage since its inception with the Patriot Act.  After the recent terrorist threats over the 2009 holiday season, they’ve stepped up their searching and, sadly, some TSA agents have been “confiscating suspicious items.”  Of course, not all $2000 cameras are suspicious but they seem to disappear with alarming regularity.

As a measure to insure the safety of your personal items and insure that your weapons will travel with you, we suggest you check them in your luggage and let the agent behind the counter know that you’re travelling with a weapon.  You’ll have to ensure the weapon in unloaded and the safety on, but after that the agent will lock your luggage and hand you the key.  You’ll be required to sign-off on the weapon and extra security tracking will be placed on your baggage. Travelling During An Outbreak

Posted by mercutiom On January - 12 - 2010

We did a bit of travelling over the holidays, as most Americans do, visiting family and friends across the nation.  Some flew, some drove, and some simply walked, but all of us saw some problems with travelling if an outbreak were to occur.

So we began to think, what would we do if there were a zombie outbreak while we were travelling?  What would we do if we were away from our plans, our weapons, our team?  What steps should we take before leaving town?  And so on…. Read the rest of this entry »

5 Things To Do With Down Time During The Outbreak

Posted by mercutiom On November - 23 - 2009

The zombies are loose and you’re holed up in you redoubt.  You’re safe and protected by your cohorts and compadres, and the walls between you and the undead.  The power is off to save the battery life, and your food supplies are ample to make it until the crops come in.  Now what to do?

The zombie apocalypse can be an utterly boring affair once you’ve prepared and taken care of everything else.  There’s going to be a lot of downtime between onslaughts and there’s not going to be a television to watch, and internet to play on, or even a radio to listen to (we’ll get into some of these options later.)  So what are you going to do?

Well, you will have to tend the crops and the herd animals, and weapons training should take up at least part of every day.  But in the evening, after the final meal has been served, you’ll need to find a way to entertain your mind.  So here are five options to get you through those boring nights: Read the rest of this entry »

Zombies In Hollywood

Posted by mercutiom On November - 20 - 2009

Hollywood has always had a love affair with zombies.  Since the dawn of the Silver Screen zombies and the undead have been depicted in all their infamy.  Yet, with all the work that goes into these films, the producers, directors, and writers almost always get the facts completely wrong.

In the past Hollywood correctly had zombies trudging along at their slow pace, attacking humans they came across, moaning unintelligibly, and tearing through doors, windows, and walls to get to their prey.  They also had them talking and thinking which we all know is a total blasphemy of the zombie regardless of type.

More recent depictions have zombies running under the Eiffel Tower in Paris and chasing people from malls and pubs.  As we all know zombies don’t run.  They can’t, it’s physically impossible for them to run.  Questions are constantly raised as to how they are even able to stumble along or use their muscles at all. Escape Plan Part 4 Of 4: Know Where You’re Going

Posted by mercutiom On November - 13 - 2009

Getting your gear together and being prepared to run is important.  Having escape routes out of your home, apartment, office, or where ever are excellent.  Knowing multiple ways to get out of town is awesome.  But all of those things are worthless if you have no idea where you’re going.

We’ve talked in the past about selecting options for choosing a location in which to take refuge when a zombie outbreak occurs, but if you have the time to prepare a redoubt beforehand that would be the optimal option.

First, try choosing a climate you’d be comfortable living in.  If you like the snow then prepare a position in the north.  If you hate the cold, then maybe a desert is the place for you.  Think about what you like and dislike about your current area and head to a place that meets your desires.
