Fido: A Satirical Zombie Film
So we finally took the time to watch the film “Fido” this weekend. Offhand it was an enjoyable film with some interesting things to say about the world, and how we fit into it. However, as a zombie film, it seemed to be lacking some.
The premise is that in the course of a doctor’s daughter is turned, and in order to save her from being slain, he creates a control collar that gives humans the ability to turn the zombies into slaves. The zombies are turned from a threat into an unpaid workforce with all the perks and few of the drawbacks that slavery actually entailed. Read the rest of this entry »
5 Things To Do With Down Time During The Outbreak
The zombies are loose and you’re holed up in you redoubt. You’re safe and protected by your cohorts and compadres, and the walls between you and the undead. The power is off to save the battery life, and your food supplies are ample to make it until the crops come in. Now what to do?
The zombie apocalypse can be an utterly boring affair once you’ve prepared and taken care of everything else. There’s going to be a lot of downtime between onslaughts and there’s not going to be a television to watch, and internet to play on, or even a radio to listen to (we’ll get into some of these options later.) So what are you going to do?
Well, you will have to tend the crops and the herd animals, and weapons training should take up at least part of every day. But in the evening, after the final meal has been served, you’ll need to find a way to entertain your mind. So here are five options to get you through those boring nights: Read the rest of this entry »
Zombiemania: A Look At The Zombie Fanaticism
We randomly heard about this documentary through a close friend and were sad to find out that it was relatively new, and only appearing on the Starz network. Then, while searching through the new releases on NetFlix the other night, we found that it was available on Instant View.
Being involved in a site about surviving the zombie apocalypse, we figured we had to watch it, and watch we did. We will admit that we were somewhat disappointed, but would recommend it to others who were interested in the mania over zombies that has come up in the past 50 years or so.
We were especially annoyed with the amount of attention paid to the film industry. While we understand that this has been one of the more popular industries associated with the zombie phenomenon, it’s also one that consistently makes huge errors in describing and presenting zombies. More people have been zombified because they believed something they saw in a movie than caught H1N1 naturally this year. Read the rest of this entry »
The Zombie Survival Guide: Your New Bible
Buy this book today. In fact, buy two. One copy to ready thoroughly, and another copy for when the first one falls apart.
There is no better book available to help you prepare and defend against a zombie attack. Max Brooks, the author, goes into just the right amount of detail on all aspects of survival.
You should carry a copy of this book on you at all times, for who knows where you will be when the undead begin to rise and attack the populous at large. That is another reason we recommend having several copies. Keep one in your vehicle, in your home, and in whatever bag or pack you carry around with you.
The information in the book in invaluable as well. With lists of what you should carry when fleeing zombies, to details on how to prepare your home/office/school in case of a zombie onslaught, there isn’t a single page that doesn’t lend you some insight, some tip, trick, or tool that you can use when the zombies begin moaning at your door. World War Z: The Book
World War Z is a fictional novel from Max Brooks. As far as fictional accounts of Zombie attacks are concerned it is possibly one of the best available.
In the novel, Brooks “interviews” dozens of survivors from the Zombie war (which begins sometime in the near future.) The interviews bring to light where the original outbreaks seem to have occurred, and the ways in which the outbreak spread.
Leaning heavily on currently available technologies and social practices around the world, Brooks gives the reader an in-depth view of how zombies and humans interact and work to destroy each other over the course of the war. The characters detailed are brilliantly created and have a humanity that, in itself, counter the fears that the zombies themselves illicit. Read the rest of this entry »
The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks
Max Brooks is one of our favorite authors on all things Zombie. In his latest book, he details some of the possible zombie attacks throughout history.
While we have not yet been able to get our hands on this graphic novel, the preview (available on the Official Site) left us wanting more. While early reviews have been less than favorable, it seems that at least a few of the reviewers failed to realize this was a graphic novel and not a full text novel.
For us here at USZTS, we’re planning on going out and grabbing the book first thing tomorrow, and following up with a full review shortly thereafter. It seems that the book is rather short, and given that it’s a graphic novel, it shouldn’t take us (well most of us) any longer than a train ride to work to reach the back cover.
